Passengers flying with Air India are allowed to bring:

Cabin Baggage Allowances

Economy Class: 1 piece up to 8 kg (17 lb)

Premium Economy: 1 piece up to 10 kg (22 lb)

Business Class: 1 piece up to 12 kg (26 lb)

Note: For tickets issued prior to 2 May 2024, previous cabin baggage policies apply. For reissued or rescheduled tickets, the revised maximum weights will apply.

Additional Allowance for Maharaja Club Members


Maharaja Club members are entitled to extra baggage allowances based on their tier status:

Silver Members: Additional baggage allowance on Air India-operated flights only.

Gold & Platinum Members: Additional baggage allowance on both Air India and Star Alliance member flights.

Excess Baggage Charges

If your baggage exceeds the permitted allowance:

Weight Concept: Charges apply per kilogram over the allowed weight.

Piece Concept: Charges apply per additional piece beyond the allowed number.

Note: Each checked bag must not exceed 32 kg (70 lb).

Prepaid Excess Baggage

Passengers can pre-purchase excess baggage up to 2 hours before departure (or up to 6 hours for overweight baggage) for Air India flights (excluding interline and codeshare flights).
