For passengers travelling with Air Niugini through Australian airports including
Sydney Airport,
Brisbane Airport,
and Cairns Airport, lost property handling is
divided between aircraft recovery processes and airport terminal management
systems.
Items Left on Aircraft
Objects left onboard are collected by cabin crew during post-arrival inspection
and transferred to ground handling teams. These items are recorded and stored
securely for identification and retrieval. Retrieval requires proof of travel
and item description matching airline records.
Airport Terminal Items
Items misplaced within terminal zones such as check-in halls, security screening
areas, retail spaces, or boarding gates are managed by individual airport lost
property offices. Each Australian airport operates its own storage and retrieval
system independent of airline handling.
Delayed Baggage Reporting
Missing checked baggage must be reported immediately at the arrival baggage
service desk. A Property Irregularity Report is issued for tracking purposes.
The reference number is used for tracing through international baggage handling
systems linking Australian airports and Port Moresby.
Identification and Collection
Recovered items require valid identification and ownership confirmation before
release. Storage duration is limited, after which unclaimed items may be
disposed of according to airport policy.
Passenger Guidance
Valuables including electronics, travel documents, and cash are advised to be
carried in cabin baggage. The airline and airport authorities are not
responsible for unsecured items left in public areas or onboard aircraft.
