Passengers travelling with China Eastern Airlines who lose personal belongings
during a flight or while passing through Australian Airports should report the
incident as soon as possible. The recovery process depends on where the item was
misplaced and which organisation has custody of the property.
Items Left on Board the Aircraft
Personal belongings left inside the aircraft cabin on China Eastern Airlines
flights arriving at Australian Airports are collected after passenger
disembarkation by cabin crew and transferred to the airline's ground handling
representative for recording and safekeeping.
Items Lost at the Airport
Property misplaced inside Australian Airports, including terminal buildings,
check-in halls, security screening areas, lounges and boarding gates, is managed
by the respective airport lost property office. Passengers should contact the
airport authority directly when the exact location of the missing item is
uncertain.
Baggage-Related Lost Property
Passengers whose checked baggage fails to arrive at the destination airport must
report the matter immediately before leaving the baggage reclaim area. A
Property Irregularity Report (PIR) is created to enable baggage tracing through
the international baggage tracking system.
Reporting a Lost Item
Passengers should provide their flight number, travel date, baggage tag numbers
where applicable, contact information and a detailed description of the missing
item. Supporting photographs or identifying features may assist with the search
process.
Recovery and Collection
Recovered property is retained for a limited period in accordance with airport
or ground handling procedures. Collection requires presentation of valid
identification together with proof of ownership. Delivery arrangements may be
available in some circumstances, with transportation charges payable by the
passenger where applicable.
Passenger Advice
Passengers departing from or arriving at Australian Airports are encouraged to
keep passports, travel documents, electronic devices, jewellery, cash and
medication in their cabin baggage. Valuable items should not be placed inside
checked baggage, as airline liability is governed by applicable international
conventions and conditions of carriage.
