When flying from Australian airports with United Airlines, passengers are allowed both carry-on and checked baggage, subject to fare type and frequent flyer status.

Carry-On Baggage

Each passenger may bring one carry-on bag and one personal item (such as a laptop bag or handbag) free of charge. The carry-on bag must not exceed 22 x 35 x 56 cm (including handles and wheels), and the personal item should fit under the seat in front of you.

Checked Baggage

For international flights from Australia to the U.S. and other destinations, United generally includes one or two checked bags in the fare, depending on the cabin class:

Economy Class: 1 free checked bag up to 23 kg (50 lbs)

Premium Economy / United Premium Plus: 2 free checked bags up to 23 kg each

Business and First Class: 2 free checked bags up to 32 kg (70 lbs) each

Maximum bag dimensions are 158 cm (length + width + height).

Additional Bags and Overweight Fees

Extra checked bags or overweight luggage incur additional fees. Overweight bags (23–32 kg in Economy or above 32 kg in other classes) and oversized items will result in surcharges.

MileagePlus and Star Alliance Status

Premier Silver and higher MileagePlus members, as well as Star Alliance Gold members, may be entitled to additional baggage allowances or fee waivers.

Passengers are advised to verify baggage rules at the time of booking, as allowances may vary by route and ticket type.
