United Airlines Cancellation and Refund

Emergencies and unexpected changes can happen to anyone. If your travel plans shift, here’s what you need to know about United Airlines’ cancellation and refund policy:

Cancellation Policy

24-Hour Flexible Booking

Cancel any booking within 24 hours of purchase for a full refund, provided it was made at least 7 days before the flight.

Refundable Tickets

These can be canceled anytime prior to departure, with a cash refund issued to the original payment method.

Non-Refundable Tickets

You can still cancel, but instead of a refund, you’ll receive travel credit for future use. Cancellation fees may apply, depending on the fare.

Basic Economy Tickets

Generally non-changeable and non-refundable. However, exceptions may be available during special promotions or under certain conditions.

Award Tickets

MileagePlus members can cancel and redeposit miles, but fees may apply. The amount depends on Premier status and how close to departure the cancellation occurs.

Refund Policy

Eligibility

Refunds are available for refundable tickets, flight cancellations, or unavailable paid services (like seat upgrades or baggage fees).

How to Request

Fill out the Refund Request Form on United's official website at united.com/refunds.

Processing Time

Expect 7 business days for credit card refunds, or up to 20 business days for cash/check payments.

Passengers are encouraged to check the specific fare rules on their ticket or contact United Airlines for clarification.
