Australian government regulations require airlines to disembark all passengers and their cabin luggage at the first port of call into Australia. If you are transiting Sydney Airport from overseas you will be required to undergo the regular passenger screening process, including potential random selection for body scanning, prior to entering the transit lounge. This process is similar to that experienced at your port of departure.

If you’re landing at the International or Domestic terminal and are transferring to another flight, T1 International and T2/T3 Domestic terminals are located a short ride away from each other. There are several ways you can transfer between the terminals, depending on your flight details and how much time you have to make your connection. Check with your airline for advice on the best transfer options for you.

Please be aware that it is not possible to walk between the Domestic and International terminals. If you wish to transfer between terminals, it would be recommend you take either train, taxi or 400 / 420 bus.

The Airport do not operate on a 24 hour basis and overnight stays are not permitted. Passengers transiting overnight will need an appropriate visa for Australia to leave the airport to access overnight accommodation.

There are airport transit lounge facilities that allow ‘transit without a visa’ TWOV eligible passengers to connect to their onwards flight.
