Cessnock Airport
Cessnock Airport (IATA: CES, ICAO: YCNK) is a civil airport located 6 km (4 mi)
(by road) north of Cessnock, New South Wales, Australia.
Cessnock Airport is a popular flight training aerodrome servicing Newcastle and
Lower Hunter based pilots and students. It is usually considered so popular due
to its large training area, which it shares with Maitland Airport and other
Hunter Region aerodromes.
It is home to two flight schools, Hunter Valley Aviation (a campus of Basair
Aviation College, based in Bankstown NSW) and Achieve Aviation. The airport is
also home to two helicopter charter companies; Slattery Helicopter Charter and
Hunter Valley Helicopters which operate from the Eastern Apron. Early morning
hot air balloon flights are also conducted in close proximity to the aerodrome
in the early hours of the day.
The airport resides at an elevation of 211 ft (64 m) above mean sea level. It
has a runway designated 17/35 with asphalt surface measuring 3,599 ft (1,097 m)
in length.
