Passengers travelling on SriLankan Airlines flights departing from Australian
airports are required to comply with the baggage limits shown on their ticket,
as allowances differ according to cabin class, fare type, and destination.
Carry-on Baggage
Passengers travelling in Economy Class may carry one cabin bag weighing up to 7
kg. The maximum permitted dimensions are 56 cm × 36 cm × 23 cm, including wheels
and handles.
Business Class passengers may bring two cabin bags with a combined maximum
weight of 14 kg. Each individual item must remain within the airline's published
size restrictions.
One additional personal item, including a handbag, laptop case, camera bag, or
small backpack, may also be carried into the cabin if it fits beneath the seat
in front.
Cabin baggage departing from Australian airports is subject to aviation security
screening. Items exceeding permitted weight or size limits must be checked
before boarding.
Checked Baggage
SriLankan Airlines applies either the weight concept or piece concept depending
on the route and fare purchased. Services between Melbourne and Colombo normally
operate under the piece concept.
Typical allowances include:
• Economy Class: 2 pieces, each up to 23 kg
• Business Class: 2 pieces, each up to 32 kg
Each checked bag must not exceed 158 cm in total linear dimensions. Individual
baggage weighing more than 32 kg cannot be accepted and must be repacked before
check-in.
Extra Baggage
Passengers departing from Australian airports may purchase additional baggage
before departure through SriLankan Airlines booking management services,
customer support, or airport ticket counters. Advance purchases are offered
subject to route availability.
Charges apply for baggage exceeding the permitted number of pieces, weight
allowance, or size limitations. Oversized sporting equipment, musical
instruments, and other special baggage items may require advance notification
and additional handling fees.
