SriLankan Airlines is the national airline of Sri Lanka and is headquartered in
Katunayake. The airline operates its primary hub at Bandaranaike International
Airport and provides scheduled passenger and cargo services across Asia, the
Middle East, Europe, and Australia.
Established in 1979 as Air Lanka, the airline adopted the SriLankan Airlines
brand in 1999 and has been a member of the oneworld alliance since 2014.
For travellers departing from Australia, SriLankan Airlines operates scheduled
services between Melbourne and Colombo. The Melbourne route provides direct
access to Sri Lanka while also offering onward connections through Colombo to
destinations across the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, the Maldives, the
Middle East, and selected European cities served by the airline or its oneworld
partners.
As of 2026, SriLankan Airlines serves more than 35 international destinations in
over 20 countries. The airline supplements its own network through codeshare
agreements with numerous international carriers, allowing passengers departing
from Australian airports to access a broader range of destinations under a
single booking.
